Katie McGowan Bucci, Ed.D.

Senior Director, First Scholars Initiatives, Center for First-generation Student Success, NASPA


Katie McGowan Bucci serves as the senior director for First Scholars Initiatives with the Center for First-generation Student Success, an initiative of NASPA and The Suder Foundation. Prior to joining NASPA, Katie spent 16 years working on different campuses for the State University of New York (SUNY) system. Her experience spans senior leadership, institutional effectiveness, strategic planning, assessment, accreditation, concurrent enrollment programming, admissions and enrollment management, online teaching and learning, college instruction and curriculum, academic advising, and other initiatives typically housed in academic and student affairs. As a student success advocate, Katie is passionate about working with institutions of higher education to become student ready and effective.

A first-generation college graduate, Katie holds an Ed.D in education research, theory, & practice from Binghamton University, a M.A.S.S in student affairs & diversity from Binghamton University, a B.A. in psychology from University at Albany, and an A.S. in human services from SUNY Broome Community College.
