Cleveland State University's First-Generation College Celebration
November 8

2020 First-Generation College Celebration

National First-Gen Day is on November 8th, which falls on a Sunday this year, but we planned TWO days here at Cleveland State University (CSU)!

CSU will host a “First-Gen Celebration: A Fun Story Telling Experience” event on Friday, November 6th, 2020 from 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm to celebrate first-gen students and staff members at CSU!

On November 8th, 2020 there will be “Celebrate YOU” campaign where first-gen students will post a picture doing the things that bring them, joy, peace, pride, etc. and use the hashtag, #CLEStateFirstGen! In order to incorporate more first-generation faculty experiences into classroom discussions, a survey was sent to all faculty members.

2018 First-Generation College Celebration

The First Gen Center at Cleveland State University (CSU) was established in 2018. The First-Gen Center is a safe space where first-gen college students can study, network, and attend events. The first first-gen event at CSU was an Open House where students had a chance to vote for the CSU first-gen logo. Students received information on CSU resources as well as met other first-gen students. The second event was a networking event. The first 50 students got a T-shirt with the first-gen logo. The third event was an ice-cream social where students were asked to share the things that motivate them to move forward as well as their aspirations.
