2022 First-Generation College Celebration

Kansas City University (KCU) will host its second annual First-Generation College Celebration on both its Joplin and Kansas City campuses on Monday, November 7. Students from the College of Osteopathic Medicine, Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences program, and Psychology Doctorate program are invited to identify, engage, and collaborate with their first-generation peers, along with KCU faculty and staff who identify as first-generation. During the event, participants will share a meal and create connections through discussion questions posed to the group. As a graduate and professional university, KCU is excited to continue the First-Generation College Celebration as a way to celebrate and support first-generation students who aspire to become osteopathic physicians, scientists, and clinical psychologists.

2021 First-Generation College Celebration

Kansas City University (KCU) will host its first annual First-Generation College Celebration on both its Joplin and Kansas City campuses on Monday, November 8. Students from the College of Osteopathic Medicine, Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences program, and Psychology Doctorate program are invited to identify, engage, and collaborate with their first-generation peers, along with KCU faculty and staff who identify as first-generation. During the event, participants will share a meal and their reflections on their first-generation experiences. Some of the reflections include: how they engage in self-care, what being first-generation student status means to them, what brought them to their program of study, what keeps them going, how to find and utilize mentors, what advice they would give first-generation students today, and what programming they would like to see available in the future. As a graduate and professional university, KCU is excited to be able to use the 2021 First-Generation College Celebration as a springboard to inform future programming for first-generation students who aspire to become osteopathic physicians, scientists, and clinical psychologists.
