The Center's Community of Practice

When the Center first launched, this Community of Practice offered resources and approaches to foster first-generation student success. Now, the Center’s website offers a robust database of scholarly, news, and media articles and is updated weekly. As a result, the Community of Practice will no longer be active.

 

The Center is pleased to announced the establishment of a Community of Practice! This resource, which resides in NASPA’s Online Learning Community, is FREE and OPEN TO ALL who are interested in first-generation student success. Inside, you’ll find opportunities to post questions and open dialogue on the forums, host live chats with colleagues on specific topics, and search a calendar for upcoming opportunities. The Community of Practice also features archives of scholarly literature, media, and program resources. Admittedly, the archives have limited functionality in the Community of Practice but will be improved through our new website where searching, tagging, and easy navigation will be available. Throughout the Community of Practice, you’ll find submission forms to add your favorite articles and websites, share facilitation guides and training materials, and post content that colleagues may benefit from. More details are available once you enter the site!

Again, the Community of Practice is FREE and OPEN TO ALL. However, the site can be a bit tricky to access the first time so please follow the instructions below closely:

 

FIRST COMMUNITY LOG IN FOR NASPA MEMBERS OR THOSE WITH A FREE NASPA PROFILE:

• Visit: FIRST TIME LOG IN LINK
• You should land on the page below, click LOG IN TO REGISTER.
  
• Using your NASPA member credentials, log in to your NASPA member profile.
• You will be prompted to REGISTER MYSELF. Select this button and then NEXT.
• You will see a receipt, like the one below, for $0. Click SUBMIT.
  
• You’ll be redirected to an order summary. (This is the only time you will have to endure this process!)
• Visit: CONTINUE TO COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE. Your member log in should still be active but, if you are prompted, please use your credentials to sign in again.
• You should be directed to “Click Continue” to enter the Online Learning Community. Click!
• This will direct you to your customized OLC Dashboard. You’ll see an option for Center for First-generation Student Success. Click here and you are in the Community of Practice!

FIRST COMMUNITY LOG IN FOR NON-NASPA MEMBERS WITHOUT A FREE NASPA PROFILE:

• Visit: FIRST TIME LOG IN LINK. You should land on the page below, click LOG IN TO REGISTER.
  
• You will be prompted to log in. Scroll to the bottom and select “Don’t Have An Account?” Follow the steps to create your account and log in.
• You will be prompted to REGISTER MYSELF. Select this button and then NEXT.
• You will see a receipt, like the one below, for $0. Click SUBMIT.
  
• You’ll be redirected to an order summary. (This is the only time you will have to endure this process!)
• Visit: COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE DIRECT LINK
  • Your log in should still be active but, if you are prompted, please use your credentials to sign in again.
• You should be directed to “Click Continue” to enter the Online Learning Community. Click!
• This will direct you to your customized OLC Dashboard. You’ll see an option for Center for First-generation Student Success. Click here and you are in the Community of Practice!
  • If you do not see the Center’s option, check your “enrolled” tab.

WHEN RETURNING TO THE SITE AFTER REGISTRATION:

• Visit: COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE DIRECT LINK
• Log in to your NASPA member profile.
• You should be directed to “Click Continue” to enter the Online Learning Community. Click!
• This will direct you to your customized OLC Dashboard. You’ll see an option for Center for First-generation Student Success. Click here and you are in the Community of Practice!

Alternatively, you may also visit https://olc.naspa.org, click “log in” at the top right corner, follow the steps and you’ll land at your OLC Dashboard.
