Jennifer Luken Sutton, Ph.D.

Expert Guide, FirstGen Forward


Jennifer Luken Sutton serves as an Expert Guide with FirstGen Forward. Prior to joining, Jennifer was the Director of TRIO Student Support Services at the University of Texas at Arlington. She is a TRIO achiever and first-generation graduate; her background in the TRIO Programs drives her passion in working with institutions and initiatives focused on support students and their families from under-resourced and underrepresented backgrounds. She has written and implemented several federal grants and led institutional efforts focused on First-Generation college students and the Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) designation and initiatives. She advocated and created curriculum for sections of the first-year experience course, specifically for students who identify as first-generation college students.

Jennifer is a proud Maverick alum, all her degrees are from the University of Texas at Arlington. She holds an M.A. and a B.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies.
