Large-Scale Technology Implementation Stories to Inspire Change (First-Generation Latinx Students’ Perspectives and Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning)

Lisa Andion / Brill / November 2022

An education researcher in an educational technology company, works with higher education faculty and administrators to demonstrate how software may be implemented to achieve the goals of supporting student learning and retention particularly for first-generation Latinx1 students. This research focused on the field of computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL) and ways that technology can better serve student needs and academic outcomes. The researcher looked at how first-generation Latinx students perceived the use of CSCL tools as part of their college experience at a predominantly white institution (PWI). This study investigated first-generation Latinx students’ perceptions of their learning experiences using computer supported collaborative learning tools in their classrooms. Students’ perceptions of their experience with these tools in the classroom varied based on how much and what kind of interaction and scaffolding2 support was provided by their instructors.
