2020 First-Generation College Celebration
For the 2020 First-Generation Celebration Day, we will partner with First Gen Student Union (FGSU), our first-gen student organization, for a week of events.
Monday, November 9th will be a social media takeover in which FGSU will post to celebrate the first-gen identity and the community. Monday will also be the unveiling of the 2nd edition of our First Gen Yearbook.
Tuesday, November 10th will be an interview with staff to talk with first-gen students and the resources the university has.
Wednesday, November 11th will be postings of national and university-specific first-gen statistics.
Thursday, November 12th will be members of FGSU speaking with first-gen alumni.
Friday, November 13th will be videos and photos submitted by first-gen students highlighting their stories.
2019 First-Generation College Celebration
American University's Center for Diversity and Inclusion will be hosting an ice-cream social for the first-generation community to network with other students, faculty and staff who identify as first-gen. We will also debut out First-Gen Yearbook, which features advice and resources from AU faculty and staff who are first-generation college students.
