2020 First-Generation College Celebration

Sacramento State will celebrate its third annual First-Generation College Celebration Week virtually from Monday, November 2 through Thursday, November 6, 2020. The Higher Education Act of 1965 paved the way for low-income and first generation college students to attain college degrees. Join us as we celebrate this special day!

Review our event schedule to learn how we plan on amplifying the experiences of first-generation students on our campus:

  • Monday, November 2: Student Panel
  • Tuesday, November 3: Go Vote!
  • Wednesday, November 4: Becoming First
  • Thursday, November 5: Tri-Alpha (First-gen Honor Society) Induction Ceremony
  • Friday, November 6: Who's Who On Campus: Meet First-gen faculty and staff members

We encourage participants to join us virtually, using #firstbutnotalone and #CelebrateFirstGenSacState across social media leading up to and throughout the event.

2019 First-Generation College Celebration

Sac State's First Gen Institute "First, But Not Alone" lunch welcomes Alumna and Council woman Stephanie Nguyen.

"First, But Not Alone" showcases powerful narratives of students, staff, faculty and administrators' success and challenges from the past, present and future in the context of their identity as first-generation students to first-generation professionals. The compilation of personal stories serves as a reminder of the shared experiences and tapestry of the Hornet Family.
