2022 First-Generation College Celebration

Indiana State University (ISU) proudly celebrates and supports first-generation students! Invitations will be extended to currently enrolled first-gen students to attend the November 8, 2022 recognition ceremony.

November 8 was selected as the date for the annual National First-Generation College Celebration to honor the anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act of 1965. All pre-registered students will receive an Indiana State University First Generation Leadership Certificate.

Local first-generation high school juniors and seniors will also be invited to participate in the celebration. ISU strongly believes that building a pipeline of first-generation scholars, and future scholars, not only introduces important resources and networks of support, but also empowers and supports student enrollment, retention and graduation initiatives. Former First Generation College Completers, that now serve as ISU administrators, faculty, and staff, will share inspirational and persuasive narratives to encourage the scholars to endure. A resource fair will be included to address any questions prospective students may have regarding enrollment, financial aid, residential life, or student support services.
