2023 First-Generation College Celebration
Nearly 30% of all IU Indianapolis Students are First-Generation. IU Indianapolis (formerly IUPUI) was recognized as a First-Gen Forward Institution through the Center for First-Generation Student Success through NASPA. The 2023 IU Indianapolis sixth annual Campus-Wide First-Generation Celebration will be on Tuesday, November 7th from 11 am - 1 pm at Campus Center 450. Additionally, individual academic units, and support offices across campus are encouraged to deliver their very own programs during National First-Generation College Week.
2022 First-Generation College Celebration
Nearly 30% of all IUPUI Students are First-Generation. IUPUI was recently recognized as a First-gen Forward Institution through the Center for First-Generation Student Success through NASPA. The 2022 IUPUI First-Generation Recognition Campaign will deliver programming that welcomes, celebrates, and connects first-generation students, faculty, staff, alumni, and advocates/champions. In addition to our annual campus-wide First Generation Celebration on Tuesday, November 8th, IUPUI will have its inaugural First Generation Career Connections Night on Thursday, November 10th. Additionally, individual academic units, and support offices across campus are encouraged to deliver their very own programs during National First-Generation College week.
2021 First-Generation College Celebration
Our 2021 celebration will be in person again! We are hosting a Hot Cocoa Bar, cupcakes, yard games, and a button making station. students will have the chance to win and receive different swag items.
2020 First-Generation College Celebration
In 2020 we held a social media campaign, students shared their firt-gen stories and had a chance to win a sweatshirt. We did some tabling at the campus center and passed our different swag items.
2019 First-Generation College Celebration
IUPUI will host a week-long celebration starting on November 2 where first-generation students, staff, and faculty from several departments and programs will be encouraged to celebrate. Several departments and offices will host their own educational events and social celebrations. IUPUI will be hosting over 40 events throughout the week!
2018 First-Generation College Celebration
IUPUI had a campus-wide event on November 8 where first-generation students, staff, and faculty were honored and celebrated. Several departments and offices hosted their own celebrations from a hand-written postcard campaign to incoming first-generation, first-year students, a balloon release with inspiring words, a first-generation student study-abroad workshop, and much more!
