NASPA 100 Years

The experience of first-generation students is unique in that it is filled with "firsts" at every turn, from the application for admission to the application for graduation, every step can feel exhilarating and intimidating at the same time. In this live briefing, participants will hear first-hand accounts from higher education practitioners who have participated in the evolution of NASPA’s commitment to first-generation student success. Beginning with the formation of the NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program in 1989; to the thoughtful exploration, advocacy and study of matters by the Socioeconomic and Class Issues in Higher Education (SCIHE) Knowledge Community (2014); and, most recently, the establishment of the Center for First-generation Student Success (2017).
