2023 First-Generation College Celebration

As we continue to build on the rich history that celebrates all the unique contributions of first-generation college students, Norfolk State University TRiO Student Support Services Program staff will give each member of the university community an "I am First " maker to make it easier for the 45% first-generation student population to identify those in all offices across campus, therefore, removing the barriers imposed on the first-generation community. We will host workshops, a community service activity, and an "I am First" celebration (information) session–culminating with a luncheon that will feature the University Rector (a first-generation college student) as the keynote speaker.

2018 First-Generation College Celebration

Norfolk State University through the Teacher PREP Student Support Services Program in the School of Education plans on celebrating First-Generation College Celebration by having a “snack break” in the lobby of the Bozeman Education Building and inviting students, staff, and faculty to come and celebrate.  On the days leading up to November 8, Teacher PREP through email and social media will spotlight staff, faculty, and students from the Education Department who identify as first-generation college students and graduates.
