2018 First-Generation College Celebration

Southwestern Oregon Community College is planning to have a human library event and ice cream social on campus. The human library is designed to provide a positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices and lead to greater understanding and acceptance within the community. First-generation college students and graduates will be available for “check out” to tell their stories and engage in one-on-one conversations with “readers.” There will also be a slide show of notable first-generation college students, as well as "I'm First" pins offered to first-generation students, faculty, and staff across campus to wear with pride.
