The University of Florida's First-Generation College Celebration
2021 First-Generation College Celebration
The University of Florida is proud to continue championing and celebrating first-generation students with a week of programs co-created by various campus partners. Beginning on October 27th, events include a FAFSA-preparation workshop, open-houses for first-generation student organizations and departments, two screenings of the film, "In the Heights", Student Government's-led "First-Gen and Juice" social, and a breakfast/ awards ceremony for first-generation faculty. On November 8th, community partners will gather for a campus-wide picnic, where first-gen identified students can receive a free "First-Generation Florida Gator" t-shirt. Additionally, the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars program will debut a documentary which follows the development of the program over the last 15 years; the program, created to provide full-collegiate support to income-limited, first-generation college students, was created in 2006 under the guidance of President Emeritus Bernie Machen.
