The University of Tampa is proud to join in the nationwide celebration of National First Generation College Celebration (FGCC) by hosting a series of exciting and meaningful events to honor and support first-generation college students. This year's FGCC will take place from November 6th to November 9th, and UT is excited to be a part of this national initiative.
The University of Tampa recognizes the unique journey that first-generation college students embark upon as they pursue higher education. These students are the first in their families to attend college, and their dedication and achievements deserve to be celebrated. With the goal of fostering a sense of community, support, and empowerment for first-generation students, UT has organized four engaging events:
First Gen Breakfast Bonanza - November 6, 2023
Kick off the celebration with a delicious breakfast gathering. Join fellow first-generation students, faculty, staff, and administrators for a morning of camaraderie and inspiration. Share stories of intersectional identities and network with others who understand the significance of being the first in their families to attend college.
First Gen Awareness Tabling – November 7, 2023
Visit the informative awareness tabling event, where you can learn about the resources, support, and opportunities available to first-generation students at UT. Take photos with our first gen backdrop and photo props, spin the wheel for great prizes, learn more about the first gen identity, and get inspired to finish the semester strong.
First Generation Celebration Luncheon – November 8, 2023
“First Steps, First Stories.” Indulge in a celebratory luncheon where we will hear stories from a panel of first-generation students in all levels of their college journey. Then join us for a faculty-led interactive storytelling activity where you will learn the steps for telling your own story while enjoying a delightful meal and engage in meaningful discussions. Students will have the chance to win prizes such as an iPad, a $250 bookstore grant, a $75 dining card, and many other prizes!
First Gen Fest Outdoor Fair – November 9, 2023
The festivities continue with the First Gen Fest outdoor fair. This vibrant event offers a mix of entertainment, games, food, and resources to enhance the first-generation college experience. It's a fun and engaging way to connect with the UT community and off-campus partners in the beautiful weather.
