The University of Washington's First-Generation College Celebration
November 8

2020 First-Generation College Celebration

The University of Washington (UW) students, staff, and faculty participated in the virtual celebration by using their custom UW First-Gen Celebration digital backgrounds on zoom and teams meetings leading up to the 8th and beyond. In addition, several virtual events for the first-gen community were scheduled during the first two weeks in November. Finally, the UW community showed their pride or support on social media using the national or UW-affiliated hashtags #CelebrateFirstGen, #BeTheFirst, #UWFirstGen or #UWFirstGenGrads.

2018 First-Generation College Celebration

Similar to last year, faculty and staff who identify as first-generation college graduate will be invited to wear “I Am First-Gen” buttons all week, to participate in the celebration and demonstrate to students that many in our community have experienced similar pathways in higher education. All three UW campuses will host events to celebrate the first-generation student experience.
