The University of West Alabama's First-Generation College Celebration

For the 2018 First-Generation College Celebration, the University of West Alabama's (UWA) SSS celebrated first-generation students and staff by holding an event in front of the cafeteria on November 8. The event included first-generation stickers, photo opportunities with a photo frame to share on social media, an announcement of the newly established first-generation student scholarship, sponsored by the local State Farm agent, and a group of students had the opportunity to pose for a photo with the Vice President of Student Affairs (a first-generation student graduate). The plan for the 2019 celebration is to expand on the 2018 efforts with an event that encourages the campus community to stop, listen, and learn about how UWA's first-generation population contributes to UWA's community.
