Tiffin University's First-Generation College Celebration
November 8

2023 First-Generation College Celebration

On November 10th at 11:00 a.m., Tiffin University will honor current students who are the first in their families to attend college at the Osceola Theater on TU’s campus. The event, First-Gen and a Friend, coincides with National First-Generation College Celebration Day, an initiative of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and the Suder Foundation. The public is invited to attend.

The lecture will feature a panel of former first-generation college students who are also Tiffin University graduates and faculty. The group will share words of wisdom and advice with attendees. Chari Mullen, class of 2006 and 2010, will be the keynote speaker. Mullen is the Director of Diversity and Inclusion for the City of Fremont and is a Ph.D. student at Walden University.

2022 First-Generation College Celebration

I have organized alumni to come back to campus who are first-gen to share their experiences being first gen and what their careers are like now. We have a photobooth for students to take pictures at and then this panel takes place at 12:30 on that day. Last year we raised $2,000 and awarding two $1,000 scholarships prior to our keynote speaker. This year's scholarships are in memoriam of a first-gen Tiffin University student who took his life last year.
