2021 First-Generation College Celebration

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) has organized a "First-Gen Celebration Week with events from November 8th to the12th, 2021. This is the calendar of events:

Honoring our First-Gen Students and Staff

(A display on the University marquee by the Wiegand Fitness Center)

November 8 - 12

All-Access Pass to Our UNR Athletes: Being a First Gen & Student-Athlete

(A panel presentation with UNR student athletes who are First Gen)

Honoring Our First Gen Vets: Decorating & Planting Succulents

(A collaboration between the First- Generation Student Center and Veterans and Military Services)

• November 9th @ 2 pm until supplies last
• Where: Veterans Services (PSAC 310)

First Gen Network Social Hour: Get to know your UNR First-Gen Faculty & Staff (you are invited)

• November 10th @ 4pm
• Where: PSAC 419 (study area with the outdoor balcony)

Light appetizers will be provided 

2020 First-Generation College Celebration

Advising Game Night (Tuesday, November 3rd from 5:00pm - 6:00pm)

• Learn about your academic advisors and their first-gen experiences in an exciting game show and have a chance to win a $50 Barnes and Noble Card!!!

First-generation Town Hall Talk (Wednesday, November 4th from 1:00pm - 2:00pm)

• The focus of this town hall will be building community after the November 3rd election amid the socio-political context and the ongoing challenges that minorities/marginalized communities will continue to face.

Picasso Paint Night (Thursday, November 5th from 4:00pm - 5:00pm)

• Pick up your free art kit in the First-Gen Student Center and paint with us virtually! Kits will be available for individuals to pick up at the First-Gen Student Center before Thursday’s event. Instructors will guide individuals in a step by step process painting the first-gen logo in front of the Reno skyline!

2019 First-Generation College Celebration

Programs under the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) Academic and Opportunity Support Programs marked a week of events to celebrate First-Generation College Week by renaming the office "Student Services' First-Generation Student Center". The celebration will include a Student Senate resolution in support of the new name, a second resolution in support of First-Generation College week at UNR, the unveiling of a new office identifier, an open house, a distribution of commemorative buttons among faculty and administrators, a "Rink N' Roll" fundraiser night, and information tables.

Programs under the Academic and Opportunity Support Programs at the University of Nevada, Reno set a table with information for students and faculty. Student participants distributed commemorative buttons celebrating First-Gen day.
