2018 First-Generation College Celebration

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) designed and distributed First Gen t-shirts to faculty, staff, administrators and students. UTK employees were also provided lapel pins along with a handout listing all of the celebration day's events. These included hot chocolate on the pedestrian walkway in the morning, pizza and signing of the UTK rock in the afternoon, as well as a reception for the campus community to end the day.  Also, the planning team took over the university's Twitter account for the day. This video features first-gen students painting the rock!

In preparation for the 2019 celebration, members of the UTK community will soon gather to debrief the 2018 celebration and navigate possible plans for next year's celebration. We plan to retain the painting of the rock as it was a huge success, as well as the reception to end the day. These, we anticipate, will be our signature events.
