UT Arlington FGCC
2020 First-Generation College Celebration

For 2020, the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is providing “I Am” and “I Support” first-generation students swag (i.e., buttons, stickers, and door plaques) to faculty and staff, in addition to custom UTA-themed Microsoft Teams Backgrounds for virtual meetings.

On November 6, 2020, UTA will host a panel discussion for students titled, “Being First: From A First-gen Student to First-gen Professional and UTA Faculty." This conversation is an opportunity for our students to learn how UTA first-generation faculty and staff navigated through college and into their careers.

On November 13, 2020, UTA will host a second event for faculty and staff. This panel discussion titled, “#IAmFirst: First-gen Student Voices” is an opportunity to listen and learn about the first-generation college experience from several UTA students.

2019 First-Generation College Celebration

At the University of Texas at Arlington, students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to participate at the National First-Generation Celebration on Friday, November 8 from 11:00am-1:00pm. The event offers a time to snack and celebrate with first-generation students, faculty and staff and many first-generation student supporters. The event will offer students free pizza and limited edition Maverick First-Generation pride buttons to all visitors. Over 20 offices are registered for the First-Gen activities fair where students can meet and learn about various offices and service available to them.
