On behalf of 63 organizations, we urge congressional committees to address student food insecurity in the Farm Bill reauthorization. We oppose provisions in the House Agriculture Committee’s draft that reduce SNAP benefits, potentially increasing hunger among food-insecure households, including students. While the Senate's proposal avoids benefit cuts, it lacks measures to tackle college student hunger. Nearly 1 in 4 college students experience food insecurity, yet over half who qualify for SNAP do not receive benefits due to burdensome eligibility requirements. Congress should simplify SNAP rules and ensure no cuts to benefits to support low-income students and promote their academic success and economic security.
