Supporting First-Gen Survivors of Campus Sexual Violence
Join NASPA’s Culture of Respect Collective to learn trauma-informed best practices and enhance support and prevention initiatives for first-generation student survivors.
The NASPA Annual Conference is the premier student affairs professional development event, with featured speakers who engage participants in thoughtful reflection on the field, hundreds of educational sessions presented by student affairs educators, and networking events that both engage and inspire us to do our work on campus, this event is one not to be missed!
This experience also includes professional development specifically tailored to first-generation student success through pre-conference workshops, education sessions, networking opportunities, and more.

Over half of all college-going students identify as first-generation, and the higher education community must play an active role in advancing the success of first-generation students. Implementing an asset-based approach to first-gen student success begins with an understanding of the first-gen student definition and intersectional identities. The presenters will review the literature to ground a foundational understanding, discuss a framework for implementing an asset-based approach, and provide examples of model institutions.
Presenters:
Angie Klimko, Washington State University
Tiffany Lam, University of California, San Francisco
Tolu Taiwo, Highland Community College
