2021 First-Generation College Celebration
The Center for Student Excellence (Office of Student Success, Career Services, Counseling Services, TRIO Student Support Services, and Student Financial Services) is hosting a First-Generation Celebration Week from Monday, November 8th to Friday, November 12th.
Each day we will have different events that students, faculty, and staff can participate in. The week of events are listed below:
Monday – Merch Day
Come to Hodes to between 9am and 5pm to grab some first-gen merch and take pictures
The first 10 students to take pictures and tag us (@avilasuccess and @avilau_trio) will receive a backpack full of school supplies & other cool things!
Tuesday – Counseling Day
Students are invited to attend a workshop in the Transformational Learning Center room in the Library from 11:30am-12:30pm to discuss the school-work-life balance.
This workshop will be facilitated by Kasey Ashcraft, Coordinator of Counseling Services.

Faculty and staff are invited to attend a virtual workshop at the same time covering Imposter Syndrome and how they can better support students that are experiencing it.
Wednesday – Career Day
Students are invited to the Marian Lounge from 2-3pm to hear from a panel of professionals to learn about their first-gen journeys from college to career.
The panel will be moderated by Shawna Pena-Downing, Coordinator of Career Services.
Thursday – FAFSA Frenzy
Join us in the Creative Commons computer lab in Dallavis to start or renew your FAFSA!
The first session is from 12pm-2pm. The second session is from 4pm-6pm.
FAFSA assistance will be provided by the Financial Aid office and the Financial Literacy coordinator for the TRIO program.
Reminder: KC Scholars requires you to complete your FAFSA and submit your Student Aid Report by December 1st
Friday – Open Mic
Join us in the Marian Lounge from 12pm to 1pm to mingle with other first-generation students and hear some of their stories. Feel free to stop by and share your story as well!
