2023 First-Generation College Celebration

Bridgewater State University’s departments of the Dean of Students, Career Services, and the Internship Program collaborated to coordinate a 3-day First Gen Celebration. The Dean of Students office hosted a drop-by social event featuring prizes through a cash cube. The event allowed for First Gen students to interact with one another, meet other First Gen faculty and staff, and pick up First Gen-themed pens, buttons, and stickers. First-Gen faculty and staff were invited to wear a First Gen Proud T-shirt that was provided to them by the Dean of Students.

Career Services hosted an Alumni Career Panel for First Generation Students. Through a panel discussion, Career Services highlighted stories from BSU alumni who are now first-generation college graduates. First gen alumni panelists represented a variety of career paths and industries. The panelists shared their challenges and successes from their former experiences as students and discuss their career journeys. This program offered excellent insight to current students who are embarking on their own career development journeys as first-generation college students here at BSU. The Internship Program hosted a Vision Board for First Generation Students to utilize craft materials to create a poster board as they foresee their professional future.
