El Camino College's First-Generation College Celebration
November 8
2023 First-Generation College Celebration
El Camino College will commence National First Generation Day with a breakfast to honor our campus's first-generation students. Subsequently, we will spotlight the stories of first-generation STEM students through a faculty-student mixer. Moreover, we are organizing an event to amplify the voices of LGBTQI+ first-generation students.
2022 First-Generation College Celebration
El Camino College is excited to celebrate and once again participate in National First-Gen Day with a list of events for students, staff, and faculty. Please be ready to share your first-gen story and shout out someone who made a difference in your life.
2020 First-Generation College Celebration
This year, in support of El Camino College’s commitment to becoming an anti-racist institution, our focus for the week will be on acknowledging and celebrating Black First-Gen students. Events include a virtual symposium on the Black First-generation student experience, a conversation on the power of the Black vote and voter suppression, and a virtual conversation with Black El Camino College alumni.
2019 First-Generation College Celebration
El Camino College will once again participate in National First-Gen Day by hosting a First-Gen STEM Luncheon on campus for students and faculty. Further, El Camino will host a First-Gen Faculty Panel on campus. First Gen Faculty will share their experiences navigating academia (undergrad, graduate school, and beyond) as the first in their family to attend college and graduate school.
