2022 First-Generation College Celebration

The University of Nebraska Kearney (UNK) will host a series of events to recognize, support, and celebrate first-generation students. The schedule includes First-Gen Friday Lunch, a faculty/staff panel discussion about the importance of supporting first-generation students, assistance with completing the FAFSA, a demonstration of making healthy, inexpensive snacks, and the annual First-Gen Day Celebration. During the celebration, UNK will present a first-generation student with the Trailblazer award, and a faculty or staff member will be presented with the Friend of First-Gen award.

2021 First-Generation College Celebration

UNK's 2021 National First Gen Day celebration will be held on Monday, November 8th from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. in the Student Union. There will be food and giveaways, an awards presentation to recognize a first-generation student as well as a faculty/staff member who supports first-generation students, a video featuring first-generation students, and a keynote address from a recent first-generation graduate.

2020 First-Generation College Celebration

On Monday, November 9, the campus community came together to celebrate the University of Nebraska Kearney's (UNK’s) second annual First Gen Day, an event that showcased the success of first-generation faculty, staff, and students and highlighted the opportunities available at UNK. The program included a T-shirt giveaway and photo booth, as well as a panel discussion promoting UNK’s Study Abroad, National Student Exchange, Undergraduate Research, and Experiential Learning programs. The event was highlighted by the presentation of UNK’s inaugural Trailblazer and Friend of First Gen awards, which recognize an outstanding first-generation student and a faculty or staff member who goes above and beyond to support first-gen students.

2019 First-Generation College Celebration

UNK hosted its first-ever First-Gen Lopers Celebration, which recognized first-generation students, faculty and staff, featured free ice cream and special UNK first-gen T-shirts, a photo booth with Louie the Loper and comments from three first-generation college students/graduates.
