2019 First-Generation College Celebration
Ferris State University has planned a week to celebrate our first generation students in 2019. From November 4-8, Ferris first-gen students will have Donuts with the Deans, meet other first-gen students, faculty and staff at mixer, and celebrate together with our university president at a Dinner and Dialogue event!
For the 2018 First-Generation College Celebration, Ferris State University will have a kickoff celebration to celebrate first-generation students on campus. This celebration will include cake, refreshments, and a faculty-staff-student mixer in our University Center.
This celebration will propel the launch of a positive messaging campaign for first-generation students using banners, posters, interviews and more, which will be shared across campus through December 2018.
Messages will share why faculty and staff are glad first-generation students chose Ferris and will provide students with lists of "first-gen focused" faculty and staff offices across campus to create stronger connections and bolster student support. Additionally, they are creating a "LookBook" for the 2018-19 year, which contains interviews of first-generation students, faculty, and staff who attend and work at Ferris. This "LookBook" will play a pivotal role as they continue to learn from first-generation student experiences across campus.
